Voice Announcement not working on faults - ADT 6160 and Ademco 10se

I have an ADT 6160v keypad as one of 4 keypads on a Vista 10SE (also have 2 6128's and a 6150rf), that worked fine for programming. It does voice announce when the system is armed or disarmed. I have chimes ON and have used the #024 sequence to toggle the voice activation on or off. But the only time it works to voice the fault is after I enter program mode, make some changes to the text fields descriptors of the zones, then exit program mode. The voice will continue to work until the system is armed. Then the fault announcements stop. Chimes continue to work. Is it a faulty keypad? or am I doing something wrong?
