Gotta agree, there's probably no reason to cover just the stairs anyway. Why not put a motion downstairs that also covers the stairway. Typically with motions you setup a "trap zone", so it doesn't necessarily have to cover the stairs, maybe a hallway? or foyer?
Pretty much any motion is going to have a problem with stairs - especially if you want Pet Immunity.
Good luck!
: : I am preparing to purchase and install a DSC 864 security system using DSC Bravo6 PIR motion detectors. My two-story home has an open staircase going upstairs and downstairs. Given the open floor plan of the home, I was planning to use a motion detector on the middle floor (near the stairway) to detect anyone going up or down the stairs (they are right beside each other). The Bravo6 installation manual tells me not to point them at stairs (I assume this means the pet may set off a false alarm if it makes it way up or down the stairs). Any suggestions? Any other motion detectors I should consider purchases before I buy the Bravo6?
: : Thanks for any suggestions.

: The Paradox Digigard 75, C & K DT-500, and the Sentrol PI-6000 would have the same problem with the stairs. I suggest using more than one motion, one downstairs, and one upstairs (that DON'T cover the stairs)........Sorry, that's the best I can do........Russ......
