626 is just the codepad, you have an Esprit 728.

the panel will still arm and disarm even if the trouble light is on, you have proved this by arming and disarming with your user code, the system will still sqwak the siren when armed with a user code,

the remotes you have are the old Esprit RF type which work by sending a RF signal and a user code, as I mentioned it sounds like the user code/s for your remotes have been deleted, it does happen, the garage door will still operate because the receiver does not need the user code to operate the door, the codes are just for arm and disarm, the door will operate just from a valid RF signal.
